Volunteer with OMHS Pastoral Care
For new patients, Pastoral Care volunteers are among the first faces they see in our hospital. Our dedicated team of approximately 75 volunteers is on the front line of caring at OMHS. Do you feel the calling?
What do volunteers do?
At OMHS, there are generally three types of pastoral volunteers.
1. Initial Volunteers. These volunteers visit new patients to determine their church affiliation. This helps our staff coordinate a patient's spiritual care with his church or parish.
2. Eucharist Ministers. These volunteers provide Holy Eucharist to OMHS' Catholic patients each day. Volunteer ministers must be in good standing with their local parish.
3. Church Callers. These volunteers call churches who have patients in the hospital.
What is the time commitment?
Schedules are flexible. Volunteers can work from once a week to once a month--it's up to you. Volunteer shifts are usually 3-4 hours.
How are volunteers trained?
Pastoral Care volunteers are given extensive training. Our staff will make sure you are completely comfortable before you get started on your own. You will also receive ongoing training throughout the year. Plus, enjoy our annual spring retreat and a special Christmas breakfast as a thank-you from us to you.
