Joint Replacement Center
Service/Responsibilities
The Joint Replacement Center is responsible for patients having total joint replacement. Patients in our unit are recovering from total or partial knee replacement, total partial hip replacement, and even on occasion a total shoulder or elbow surgery. We offer a pre-educational opportunity for both the
patient and family two-weeks prior to scheduled surgery. This allows the opportunity to have pre-operative testing completed, be assessed by the Anesthesia provider, and meet with the Physical Therapist and Case Management as well as the opportunity to meet others that will be experiencing this event at the same time. It is a unique place for patients to share similar experiences and includes family participation in the rehabilitation and recovery process. We focus on group dynamics and camaraderie.
Technology
The department uses computerized charting. We have the capabilities to provide remote cardiac telemetry for the safety of our patients.
Staffing
The Joint Replacement Center is unique from the rest of the organization. We are a ten bed unit with private rooms for our patients. We admit patients on Monday and Tuesday and discharge them on Thursday and Friday. The unit is independent and run by a nurse manager. We have fixed staffing that includes a minimum of 2 RNs and a PT and/or a PTA on dayshift. The evening shift staffs with a minimum of 2 RNs and a CNA at certain census levels. We follow a primary nursing care model. Staff schedules are done according to a matrix which offers great flexibility for you to schedule personal activities in advance.
Training/Education
The department has unit specific in-services and continuing education. OMHS offers on-site training and continuing education opportunities monthly that are FREE to their employees. Yearly skill labs are given. Tuition reimbursement offered for specialty certifications and advanced degrees.
Continuous Quality Improvement
The Joint Replacement Center continually strives to improve the quality of care we deliver to our patients and their families. We participate in all OMHS sponsored quality improvements initiatives.
