Pediatrics Unit
Service/Responsibilities
The Pediatrics department is responsible for treating children from birth to 18 years of age. The department also takes the overflow from other units such as med-surg, surgery, orthopedics, and gynecology. We take care of a wide range of diagnosis and age groups.
Technology
Pediatrics has computerized charting.
Staffing
We are a 15 bed unit with a patient capacity of 24. Some rooms are double occupancy. Pediatrics must have two RN’s working at all times. We use a team approach to patient care, incorporating a mix of RN’s, nurse assistants, LPN’s, and a unit clerk. The pediatric unit is a closed unit for staffing. Patient census varies according to season. Nurse patient ratio is 4-1. Self-scheduling and code alert security system are a bonus.
Training/Continuing Education
The training for this department includes CPR, PALS, Grand rounds with a speaker each month and yearly competencies. Annual skills lab and Pediatric CE's are offered periodically by the Pediatric unit educator.
