Neurology Unit
Service/Responsibilities
The Neurology department is responsible for neurological, neurosurgical, renal and ophthalmology patients.
Technology
Neurology uses computerized charting, Wallaroo, omni-cell, Dinamap, remote telemetry, and bedside peritoneal dialysis.
Staffing
The Neurology department houses 30 patient beds and has an average daily census of 26 patients a day. We utilize team nursing and modified self-scheduling. The nurse to patient ratio is 4-5: 1.
Training/Continuing Education
The classes offered by OMHS that benefit the Neurology department directly are acute care classes, EKG classes, ESP (skills) lab, mentoring/precepting classes, supervisor training, nurse assistant classes, ACLS, BLS, nursing certification review classes, Drugs and Drips in-services, Grand Rounds, and NIH Stroke Certification.
Continuous Quality Improvement
The Neurology department offers a stroke team, skin integrity team, fall prevention team, patient ID monitoring, and patient satisfaction monitoring for CQI.
The Neurology department utilizes team nursing and modified self-scheduling.
