Ortho/GI Unit
Service/Responsibilities
The Ortho/GI department is responsible for Orthopedic/GI patients, Medical, and Surgical overflow.
Technology
The Ortho/GI department uses remote telemetry, Wallaroo for medication distribution, computerized charting, and Omincell for controlled drugs and
supplies. Pagers and phones are also used to better our unit and patients.
Staffing
The Ortho/GI department has 26 private beds with an average daily census of 19 patients. We use a team approach to patient care. Self-scheduling is available for all staff members.
Training/Continuing Education
Classes that are offered by the hospital that benefit the unit directly are EKG classes, Acute Care classes, and Cardiac Drug and Drip. Yearly skill labs are given. Tuition reimbursement offered for specialty certification. Staff members can take advantage of tuition reimbursement and self-scheduling when in school.
Continuous Quality Improvement
The Ortho/GI department offers Prevention, Fall Prevention, Skin Breakdown Appointments for CQI, Pressure Ulcer Prevention, Scheduling Discharge Appointments, and Medication Reconciliation. We are members of Institute of HealthCare ’s Improvement team “Transforming Care at the Bedside (TCBA)”.
