Satya V. Garimella, M.D., FACC - Cardiac Electrophysiologist

Expertise:
Dr. Garimella specializes in diagnosing and treating heart rhythm problems, including the placement and management of pacemakers and defibrillators.

Education and Experience:
Dr. Garimella graduated from Osmania Medical College, India. He completed internships from St. Francis Hospital, Evanston, Illinois and Osmania General Hospital, India. Prior to joining Green River Heart, Dr. Garimella practiced at Cardiology of Kentucky and Cardiovascular Specialists, P.S.C., Louisville. He completed a post-graduate fellowship program in electrophysiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and cardiology fellowships at the University of Louisville and St. Francis Hospital, Evanston, where he was named best resident of the year in 1996. 

Certification:
He holds certifications from the American Board of Internal Medicine, with subspecialties in both cardiology and electrophysiology. 

 

 

Christopher J. Havelda, M.D., FACC - Cardiologist

Expertise:
Dr. Havelda specializes in both invasive and non-invasive diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease and peripheral vascular disease.

Education and Experience:
Dr. Havelda received his medical degree from St. Mary’s Hospital Medical School in London, England. Before he moved to Owensboro to practice cardiology at Green River Heart in 1982, he was the Academic Chief Resident at the University of Tennessee, Chattanooga. He was also Chief Fellow, Research Fellow and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Louisville. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC).

Certification:
He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

 

Roshan K. Mathew, M.D., FACC, FACP, FSCAI - Cardiologist

Expertise:
Dr. Mathew specializes in both invasive and non-invasive diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular disease and peripheral vascular disease. He performs high risk percutaneous coronary and vascular interventions.

Education and Experience:
Dr. Mathew graduated with high honors from the Kasturba Medical College in India. He then continued his medical education at the Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn and Queens, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, serving as Intern, Resident and Acting Chief Resident. Dr. Mathew completed his training in General and Interventional (Coronary and Peripheral) Cardiology from the Lahey Clinic, Boston, Massachusetts, where he served as Chief Fellow and on the Faculty. Dr. Mathew came to Green River Heart from New York where he was an interventional cardiologist in private practice. Dr. Mathew is the Medical Director of the Cath Lab at Owensboro Medical Health System. He is a Fellow of the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (FSCAI), a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and a Fellow of the American College of Physicians (FACP).

Certification:
He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

 

Albert B. Mercer, M.D., FACC - Cardiologist

Expertise:
Dr. Mercer specializes in invasive and non-invasive cardiovascular disease, providing both diagnosis and treatment.

Education and Experience:
Dr. Mercer graduated within the top 5 percent of his class from the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Duke University Medical Center. Before Dr. Mercer moved to Owensboro to practice cardiology at Green River Heart in 1984, he received his Cardiology Fellowship from the University of North Carolina. He is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC). He was elected to serve as a Governor for the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Kentucky Chapter March 2004 through March 2007 and is currently serving on the ACC Board of Directors, Political Action Committee.

Certification:
He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease by the American Board of Internal Medicine.

 

Richard Burgan, PA-C

Education and Experience:
Richard received his Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from Butler University in Indianapolis, IN. He has been practicing in Owensboro since 1999 and rejoined Green River Heart in 2011.

Certification:
Richard is certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

 

J. Roger Hagerman, PA-C

Education and Experience:
Roger received his Bachelor of Science in Physician Assistant Studies from the University of Kentucky. He began practicing in 1998 before joining Green River Heart in 2012.

Certification:
Roger is a certified as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

 

 

Ellen McLimore, RN, CCRN, APRN

Education and Experience:
Ellen received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Clemson University and a Master of Science in Nursing-Acute Care Nurse Practitioner at the University of Southern Indiana. Before joining Green River Heart in 2010, Ellen worked for 17 years as a clinicial and critical care educator at OMHS, providing education to cardiac patients and community groups regarding disease management and prevention. She also served as a staff nurse in the Coronary Care Unit. 

Certification:
Ellen is board certified as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner by the Accreditation Board for Specialty Nursing Certification.
