The McAuley Clinic in Owensboro has received the Medical Service Award from Health Kentucky. The award is given each year to individuals or groups that make a difference in the lives of Kentuckians through personal service with respect to healthcare, according to an email from Lawrence Forgy, the president of Health Kentucky, Incorporated.

McAuley Receives Healthcare Award

Mary Danhauer, an advanced registered nurse practitioner with the McAuley Clinic, accepts the Medical Service Award at a recent ceremony in Louisville held by Health Kentucky.

“I believe that this says volumes about the staff here,” said Mary Danhauer, an advanced registered nurse practitioner with the clinic. “The team that is tirelessly working to provide quality healthcare to those without insurance.”

The McAuley Clinic is a free clinic operated by OMHS. The clinic provides treatment for over 7,000 patients each year who have minor illnesses or need help staying on track with ailments such as diabetes and high blood pressure. In the past year the clinic has seen more than 14,000 visits and McAuley averages 120 new patients each month.

“I believe that it says that what we do here at McAuley is significant not only locally but also state-wide,” said Danhauer. “We have been overwhelmed with the needs of people who have no insurance, who are out of work and never been in this situation before.”

Health Kentucky was created in 1984 to help low-income and uninsured Kentuckians get the care they need by offering free medical services and prescription medicines through a statewide nonprofit network of healthcare providers, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies and pharmacies. Last year, through Health Kentucky’s hotline, they coordinated the medical services for more than 42,000 patients and the distribution of 92,000 prescriptions valued at over $12 million.
