OMHS Standards for Neurological Care

There are no national standards for post-operative care for patients who undergo brain, back, or spinal procedures. 

At OMHS we’ve established our own three guiding principles for neurosurgery patient care and recovery:

Guard the Patient

After any neurosurgical procedure we’ll control the pain to keep you comfortable.  We do intentional rounding several times a day ensure patient comfort, and recovery is closely monitored.

Observe the Patient

Our nurses conduct Neuro-checks every four hours.  They’re specially trained to detect obvious and subtle changes affecting each neurosurgical patient’s condition and to act on and report any changes. 

Heal the Patient

Our first concern is to get you safely ambulatory, or moving, again.  From there move on to the recovery of proper movement and restore you, as much as possible, to your normal life.
