Allergy and Asthma Treatments

Allergy

An allergy is an exaggerated immune response or reaction to substances that are generally not harmful. The severity of allergic reactions can range from mild discomfort to life-threatening symptoms. Learn more about allergies.

Asthma

Asthma is an inflammatory disorder of the airways, which causes attacks of wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and coughing. Asthma attacks produce a feeling of “air hunger” and can be triggered by stress, exertion and severe allergic reactions. Learn more about asthma.

Treatment

Allergy and asthma attacks are treated in the Emergency Department by the OMHS Respiratory Care unit. Our team treats patients of all ages at any time of day. Treatment options range from single treatments to critical care depending on each individual case. Read more about the respiratory department.
