Chronic lack of sleep is associated with many chronic health problems, such as heart disease, diabetes and stroke. Lack of sleep also decreases attentiveness and reaction time and is linked to increased risk of motor vehicle accidents. Compared with normal sleepers, the sleep-deprived feel more fatigued. Ignoring your lack of sleep can place you at higher risk for on-the-job injuries or cause you to miss work. Lack of sleep can keep you from participating in activities you enjoy. But even worse, it can cut years off your life.
